FIRST EDITION. THE COMPLETE NARRATIVE OF THE EXPEDITION. The Challenger was the first steam-powered ship to cross the Antarctic Circle. The photographs in these volumes included the earliest known photographs of Antarctic icebergs and peri-Antarctic islands. The expedition's major scientific findings were published in 50 volumes over the course of the next two decades. BM(NH) II, p.716.
