Shackleton derived most of the account from his recollections; he had kept only a rudimentary diary. He based the stories of the marooned Elephant Island party ... and the Ross Sea party ... on diaries and conversations' (Rosove). Conrad p.224; Rosove 308.A1 ('uncommon'); Spence 1107; Taurus 105 (erroneously describing the binding as blocked in gilt).
