First edition of Jacquemont's writings and researches made on extended travels through India. The French geologist and botanist first traveled to India in 1828, and remained there for the rest of his life. His personal observations detailed in 3 volumes are supplemented by a 4th, 'Description des collections ...', comprising scientific descriptions by leading naturalists; the mammals by I. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, crustaceans by A. Milne-Edwards, insects by E. Blanchard, and botanical specimens by Jacques Cambessèdes and Joseph Decaisne. The original botanical plate (29) featured 'Flourenzia caepitosa' was later replaced by a new plate, of 'Periandra caepitosa' -- both plates appear together in this copy. Stafleu II, 3230; Nissen ZBI 2084.
