4 vols., 2° (427 x 270mm). Half-titles, dedication, 3 lithographic frontispieces on India paper, 210 lithographic plates of which 162 are hand-coloured and 28 are uncoloured botanical plats, 8 are botanical views and 12 are views on India paper, mostly from drawings by A.A.J. Payen (some browning, mostly to text). Contemporary brown quarter morocco, gilt-panelled spines, maroon boards. Provenance: the Robert de Belder Library copy (Sotheby's, 27 April, 1987, lot 33) -- H.C.Clayton (engraved bookplate).

VERY RARE FIRST EDITION with brilliant colouring of this tribute to the great botanist George Eberhard Rumpf by Blume, who saw himself as his successor in the continuing investigation and illustration of the botany of Java.
