Lot Essay

The small volcanic island of Trindade lies 1,200km off the Brazilian coast. With its neighbour Martim Vaz, the islands were discovered in 1502 by Portuguese explorer João da Nova and remained ultramarine Portuguese territories until they became part of Brazil on its independence in 1822.
