Removed from a beautiful home cellar kept at 57 degrees and 75 humidity.
VEGA SICILIA
Without a doubt, Vega Sicilia is and has for long been, the most renowed winery in Spain. It can be considered t be the Lafite of the Iberian peninsula, a claim not so far fetched, in that the principal grape varieties grown and used are the classic Bordeaux cepages, a precedenat created long beofr ehtey became imported, planted and fashionable in the "New World."
The winery itself dates back to 1964 and parts have been very carefully and most tastefully restored. The top "Unico" wine spends an average of ten years in barriques, depending upon the vintage. These small barrels are topping up once a week and racked every six months. The Valbueno wines, made from younger vines, spend three to five years in new casks. MB
