Lot Essay

The sitters are most likely William Wodehouse, who married Frances, daughter of Lord Bathurst; and his sister Sophia, who married Sir Charles Mordant, 6th Bt. They were the children of Sir John Wodehouse, 4th Bt., and his wife Mary. William served a term as M.P. for Norfolk (1734-37).
