Lot Essay

Accompanied by an Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives confirming the date of manufacture as 1949 and its subsequent sale on December 7th of the following year.

According to our research the present watch has never before appeared at auction.

Patek Philippe commenced production of the reference 1526 in 1941, producing its first perpetual calendar wristwatch in series. At the time this reference remained the only watch with perpetual calendar available to the market. According to literature, only 210 examples were made, the majority in yellow gold cases, until circa 1952. Only a few examples in pink gold and one in stainless steel are known to date.
