Cal. 1120/2 nickel-finished lever movement, 36 jewels, glucydur balance, adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, 21k gold-edged rotor engraved 1594 - Gerard Mercator - 1994, gilt dial with black enamel and etched map of Europe, Asia and Africa, the time indicated by hands resembling the legs of an early hand-held compass used by Gerard Mercator, both moving in an arc over two sectors, one calibrated for 12 hours, the other for 60 minutes, both with Arabic numerals, circular case with fluted down-turned lugs, sapphire crystal display back, case, dial and movement signed, with an 18k gold Vacheron Constantin deployant clasp

The Mercator model was launched in 1994 to honor the memory of the famous cartographer and humanist Gerardus Mercator on the 400th anniversary of his death. The dials represent the Americas or Australia, Europe, Africa and Asia, as drawn by Gerardus Mercator in 1587.
