FURTHER CELLAR TRIMMING OF AN EXTRAORDINARY COLLECTION
This collection, a continuation of the cellar offered previously by Christie's on September 15th, has been put together with a great personal interest from a passionate wine lover. He is now relocating and has taken this opportunity to scale down to more manageable proportions.
The obvious highlights include the 1990 La Tâche and the 1996 Richebourg, both banded prior to inspection. These cases are a small slice of an incredible stock of Domaine Romanée-Conti owned by this collector.
The wines were purchased, often when first to market, from reputable New York retailers. The wines were removed from impeccable temperature and humidity controlled commercial storage.
Lots 1-38
La Tâche--Vintage 1990
Côte de Nuits, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
Bottles numbered consecutively 04793-04804
Levels; 1.5 cm or better; ten bin soiled and damp stained labels, one lightly torn label
In original wooden case, banded prior to inspection
"Stunning, massive, full-on, classic La Tbche nose that displays almost unbelievable complexity so with many different elements that it is impossible to even begin to describe them all; the primary components include ethereal and still fresh pinot fruit, clove, knock out spiciness, anise, hoisin, soy and a trace of earth but these elements only hint at the sheer depth. The flavors are big, rich, refined, classy, penetrating and superbly powerful yet everything is in perfect balance and there is more than sufficient shve to balance off the still considerable tannins. The finish is intense, pure and so long that it is haunting; I can literally still taste this wine days later after I've had it because it has such a dramatic and emotional impact. This is one of the finest, perhaps even the finest young Burgundy I have ever been privileged to try and it only seems to get better with each passing year. In short, this is absolutely brilliant. Consistent notes." BH, Sept. 9, 2005
