Clos St. Denis--Vintage 1985
Côte de Beaune, Dujac
Level: 3cm; bin soiled and glue stained label, slightly depressed cork
"This magnum, tasted some 8 years after the same wine in fifth, is interestingly enough performing almost exactly the same as the wine originally did from 750 ml format: the '85 Clos St. Denis is already displaying more than a touch of sous bois yet there is still plenty of fresh if maturing fruit of considerable complexity followed by medium weight, round, delicious, velvety flavors trimmed with a beguiling hint of truffle and earth. There is good depth and fine length and while this is by no means a big wine, it is a study in finesse and understatement. In short, while the flavors are sweet and pure, this is now thinning a bit on the finish and the overall impression is one of lovely intensity and finesse crafted in a relatively light style."
