Lot Essay

The stamp 'LALBERTAUT', previously unrecorded, appeared on a pair of giltwood consoles carved with baskets of flowers, sold from the collection of Mrs. Biddle, Galerie Charpentier, Paris, 15 December 1959, no. 88. According to the sale catalogue, it is possible that the stamp belonged to a sculptor 'Bertaut' who worked for the court.
