Such needlework hangings originally derive from Louis XIV bed-hangings for lits de parade. The slightly severe Louis XIV design is here embellished and softened with applied polychrome strapwork.
A set of related Régence needlework panels, from the Seligmann collection, was sold Sotheby's, Monaco, 14 June 1981, lot 56 while a single one, from the Mayorcas Collection, was sold, Christie's, London, 12 February 1999, lot 89.
