P. G. and R. Wellauer, Ägyptische Steingefässe der Sammlung Rudolph Schmidt Solothurn, Zürich, 1988, p. 23, pl. 29, no. 38, where it is suggested the bowl might be of New Kingdom date (1570-1070 B.C.).
The dating is uncertain, the material rare, perhaps either anorthosite-gneiss or ophicalcite. Similar stone has been used in small scale statuary, especially in the Middle Kingdom and Dynasty XXV; it is uncertain whether the bowl is of Egyptian manufacture or a Mediterranean import.
For similar stone used in statuary, cf. S. Schoske and D. Wildung, Ägyptische Kunst München, Munich, pp. 36-37, no. 22; and M. Page-Gasser and A. B. Wiese, Ägypten, Augenblick der Ewigkeit, Mainz, 1997, p. 225, no. 148.
