A PROVINCIAL EGYPTIAN PAINTED LIMESTONE SEATED STATUE
PROBABLY LATE OLD KINGDOM, DYNASTY VI, CIRCA 2200 B.C.
Of the Courtier Netjwa(?) wearing a striated wig, with muscular details of arms and torso, hands clenched on kilt, tied at waistband, an inscription on the front left side, 7 in. (18 cm.) high; and a group of Egyptian antiquities of various periods, including a turquoise glazed composition lotus cup, possibly Ramesside Period, circa 1295-1070 B.C., 4 1/8 in. (10.5 cm.) high; four bronze figures of Amun, Min-Amun, Isis and Osiris, 7½ in. (19 cm.) high max.; an alabaster alabastron with twin vestigial handles, 3¼ in. (8.2 cm.) high; an Egyptian stone head with short layered wig and head band, 1¼ in. (3.2 cm.) high; a turquoise glazed composition ibis-headed Thoth figure, 5¼ in. (13.3 cm.) high, all circa 6th-4th Century B.C.; four glazed composition shabtis, three inscribed, circa 8th-6th Century B.C., 4¼ in. (10.8 cm.) high max.; a Roman bronze footed jar; a bronze oil lamp, both circa 1st Century A.D., 4¾ in. (12 cm.) high max.; and a copy of R. H. Blanchard, Handbook of Egyptian Gods and Mummy Amulets, Cairo, 1909(a lot)
Provenance
Acquired by the present owner's father in the 1950s (d. 1969), and thence by descent to the present owner (see lots 9-12).
