The cylindrical walls of vessel flaring out to the flanged base, the domed lid with wheel-cut groove around horizontal rim, and a wheel-cut circle at centre, repaired

Formerly in the collection of Henry Wallis (1830-1916).
In later life the Pre-Raphaelite artist, Wallis, became a noted scholar and collector of antiquities; his publications included works in Egyptian, Classical, Medieval and Islamic art. Wallis travelled widely in the Mediterranean and Egypt, where he met the archaeologist Sir W. M. Flinders Petrie.
