The complete inscription reads "Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, who provides for Esagila and Ezida, the eldest son of Nabopolassar, King of Babylon, am I". Esagila was the temple of Marduk, the principal god of Babylon, while Ezida was the temple of the god Nabu in the nearby town of Borsippa. Amongst Nebuchadnezzar's exploits was the capture of Jerusalem in 597 B.C., taking its king, Jehoiachin, into exile in Babylon.
