Lot Essay

The authenticity of this work has kindly been confirmed by Maya Widmaier-Picasso. The authenticity of the work has also kindly been confirmed by Claude Picasso.
This delightful study depicts a tall vessel with a flared neck, which Picasso was known to be working on at the Madoura pottery during the 1950s. Converting the vase's silhouette into the amusing anthropomorphic body of a drapper, waist-coated gent, the sketch reveals the artist's sprightly sense of humour and sharp eye of the three-dimensional forms.
