Prayer, Arabic manuscript on paper, 9ff. with 5ll. of very fine black naskh within gold clouds, red Persian interlinear translation, title in gold within panel, margined with blue paper, marginal commentary in white within cartouches, final folio with colophon signed by the scribe Muhammad Shaf'i ibn Muhammad 'Ali and dated 15 Shawwal 1231, seal impressions of Gulistan Palace library, export seal impression, fine gold lacquer binding with floral meander- 7 7/8 x 5in. (19.9 x 12.7 cm.)

Lot Essay

The scribe Muhammad Shaf'i was a prominent Tabrizi calligrapher of naskh. His recorded works are dated between AH 1217 and 1262 (1802-1849 AD), and are religious texts or calligraphic folios.
