Lot Essay

A number of closely related conical bowls were excavated at Nishapur (Charles K. Wilkinson, Nishapur Pottery of the Early Islamic Period, New York, 1974, nos.27 and 40-44, pp.63 and 65, pls.pp.78 and 82-3). Wilkinson however uses the presence of a fish-scale filler design to indicate an Afrasiyab/Samarkand provenance.
