SAFAVID IRAN, 17TH CENTURY
The sayings of 'Ali, Arabic and Persian manuscript on clean cream paper, 15ff. plus 5 fly-leaves, each folio with 9ll., three of large blue or gold black-outlined naskh, the other 6ll. of smaller elegant black nasta'liq, the edges with blue panels generally outlined in orange, with gold floral motif, all elements boxed within gold borders with black and sometimes green rule, gold margins between black and blue rule, the opening folio with illuminated gold and polychrome headpiece, the first bifolio with all the calligraphy on similar ground and the naskh within cloud-bands, the colophon inscribed 'Abd al-Qadir al-Husayni in two panels at the bottom of the page, probably added, the brown morocco binding with gold tooled medallion and spandrels filled with floral motifs, the doublures with gold tooled cartouche, slight worm damage and areas of restoration
