This cat is made of solid potttery, rather than the hollow construction one normally finds in monochrome glazed sculptures from the Iranian world. It makes intersting comparison with a bronze lion weight in a private collection, the interior of which is filled with lead. This indicates that all the similar bronze and ceramic recumbant cat sculptures are in fact designed to sit on the corners of textiles on the ground as weights.
