Lot Essay

A smaller but finer ring of very similar form to the present example is in the al-Sabah Collection, Kuwait, attributed to the first quarter of the 17th century (Manuel Keene and Salam Kaoukji, Treasury of the World, London, 2001, no.8.37, p.108). The birds on the shanks of the present ring are considerably more pronounced than in that example.
