Lot Essay

The form of this ring comprising a beaded band around the bezel with a shank with flaring elements at the shoulders and a double notch at the back is very similar to that of a ring in the British Museum set with a carved sapphire Nandi in the bezel attributed to 18th century South India (Susan Stronge, Nima Smith and J. C. Harle, An Indian Treasury, London, 1988, no.102, p.97).
