Finely carved in shallow relief with two figures in a garden setting beside a range of archaic inscriptions, probably taken from archaic bronze vessels and coins, and a long colophon-type inscription

Lot Essay

The brushpot has been carved by an unknown carver called Wang Jianwu, who, according to the long inscription composed by his friend, a certain Xiu Dong, was particularly good at bamboo carving and well-known for it. However, Wang had a drinking problem and spent most of his earnings to buy alcohol.
