UNDERGLAZE BLUE KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)
The finely potted bowl decorated with a circular medallion in each panel with an Imperial five-clawed dragon amongst cloud scrolls, the interior similarly decorated within a double circle, the rim and base with double lines

Lot Essay

An identical bowl from The Fuller Collection was sold in these Rooms, 28 & 29 June 1965, lot 128.

The form and decoration of the current bowl are derived from early Ming prototypes, two hollycock shaped basins from the Xuande period are illustrated in Catalogue of the Special Exhibition of Selected Hsüan-te Imperial Porcelains of the Ming Dynasty, National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1998, pl. 181-182.
