A SILVER NOVELTY CRIB, WITH BISQUE HEAD INFANT DOLL
The boat-shaped crib with cut-lard cappings and applied monogram of interlaced 'GL' to one side and the Lascelles family crest to the other, on a swivel support with circular base, the doll with lace bonnet and crib lining, light blue bed covering with embroidered monogram of interlaced 'GL', contained in a wood case with key, the interior enclosing a card written in Princess Mary's hand 'silver cradle belonging to the Hon.ble. Gerald Lascelles, October 1924'

Lot Essay

The Hon. Gerald David Lascelles (1924-1998) was the younger son of Henry, 6th Earl of Harewood (1882-1947) and Princess Mary, The Princess Royal, Countess of Harewood (1897-1965). He was born at Goldsborough Hall near Knaresborough, North Yorkshire and was baptised with The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of York as his godparents. This crib, marked with interlaced 'GL' monogram and the Lascelles family crest was almost certainly a gift for the young Gerald on the occassion of his christening.
