A lacquered ivory table cabinet, Meiji Period (1868-1912)
the exterior with double fronted hinged doors above a two handled draw and below a slender set of sliding doors, decorated in gilt hiramakie and takamakie with figures dancing and playing the drums amongst pine, closed with a fan formed latch, the top panel with a peacock and hen amongst large flowering peony, boys playing amongst pine trees to the reverse side, the interior with graduated shelves and three draws to the right side, the reverse of the doors decorated in scenes of Mount Fuji behind a river landscape, raised upon a large tortoise shell lined tiered base with gilt embellishments, raised on four ivory supports upon a lacquered rectangular base, with three sides of ivory fencing supports -- 14in. (35.5cm.) high.
