This presentation box bearing an embossed trade card and the name of Maria Vergara (recipient) would have likely held various lace articles produced by the Parisian textile firm of Auguste LeFébure. In a journal published by the Canadian Executive Committee for the Paris Exhibition in 1855, Fébure's acclaimed pavilion is described as being along the same 'avenue' as those of Barbedienne, Baccarat and Tahan.
