A contemporary of renowned mosaicist Luigi Barberi, Francescangeli is recorded as being active in Rome during the first half of the 19th century and produced mosaics from a workshop located at via del Babuino in Rome.

A similar micromosaic table-top dated 1810, also depicting a putto-driven chariot and attributed to Antonio Aguatti, is illustrated in J. Gabriel, The Gilbert Collection Micromosaics, London, 2000, p. 77.
