Lot Essay

See Helen Cummingham, Majolica Figures, Atglen, PA, 1997, p. 86 for a Sarreguemines catalogue illustration depicting the tobacco-jar and cover, plache No. 6 - Courtesy of the Musée de Sarreguemines. Also note the chamberstick model is likely a satirical comment on Darwin's, 'Origin of Species' or 'Descent of Man' published 1871. See Sotheby's, New York, 3 November 1999, lot 23 for a similar model.
