A Dutch silver sweetmeat basket
Mark of Barend Swierinck, Amsterdam, 1776, also struck with later Dutch duty mark of 1795 for Haarlem
Shaped oval, on four rocaille and flower feet, the body pierced and engraved with flowers, foliage and scrolls, the rim with scrolls alternated by two foliate and flower ornaments, two shaped handles with scroll and flower ornaments, with removable interior divider (flower finial missing), the base engraved Elizabeth H. Sheppard. This piece of plate belonged to his Royal Highnes the Duke of Sussex.
