FLEMING, Ian. "Ode to Sister Potter - or - The Malingerer's Dream." Manuscript poem in 40 lines on 4-pages, signed and dated 13/7/47, 8° (folds a little worn).
A poem written by the 39-year-old Fleming to one of the nurses who looked after him while he was in Roehampton Hospital in 1947. The poem begins: "Along the ward, she peddles her Wares/Completely ignoring the invalids' stares;/Suggestive of purity, in virgin white/But her eyes can twinkle with a saucy light", and it goes on to celebrate her "neat shape" and "gentle hands". It ends with the hope "that the lady agrees my desire to share dinner/And purify - or purge - the soul of this sinner!!"
