Lot Essay

There is no known record of Droochsloot until 1616, when he was admitted to the Artist's Guild of St. Luke, subsequently becoming their Dean between 1623-1624. His early work shows the influence of both Pieter Breughel the Elder and Pieter Breughel the Younger, as well as the Flemish artist David Vinckboons. He is known to have taught his son, Cornelis Droochsloot (1630-1673), and also Jacob Duck (1600-1667).
