Château Pétrus--Vintage 1975
Pomerol, cru exceptionnel
All lots are offered in cartons. Lot 311: Slightly corroded capsules. Slightly bin-soiled and damp affected labels, two of which are slightly damaged. Levels: two base of neck and two top-shoulder. Lot 312: Slightly corroded capsules. Good appearance. Levels: eight top or better, one just below top and one upper-shoulder. Lot 313: six slightly discoloured capsules. One slightly stained label. Levels base of neck or better
Tasting note: The 1975 Petrus reveals a youthful, rustic, brutally powerful style, with an opaque garnet/ruby/purple color, and an emerging nose of over-ripe black-cherries, mocha/chocolate, and truffles. Extremely full-bodied, ferociously tannic, but awesomely concentrated, the 1975 Petrus can be drunk, provided readers have a penchant for slightly uncivilized wines. This behemoth Petrus is at least a decade away from full maturity. It is potentially a 50 year wine, with exquisite concentration and intensity. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #103 (Feb 1996)
