OPPOSITION TO HIS SON'S PROPOSED MARRIAGE. Einstein is delighted to hear that a letter to his eldest son, Hans Albert, has made an impression [Einstein was doubtful as to the genetic inheritance of his son's future wife, Frieda Knecht]: 'It would be a crime on his part to bring such children into the world' -- the responsibility is great enough already, when one is healthy. The letter goes on to discuss a proposed investment and the impossibility of a visit to Zurich in the New Year, before returning to the question of Hans Albert: 'I would so much like him to enjoy a good wife and healthy children -- though for preference not for another 2 or 3 years' -- perhaps the 'miserable economic situation' will put him off.

In spite of his parents' opposition, Hans Albert married Frieda Knecht in 1927; they had three children.
