FIRST EDITION of the principal work on the subject. Mivart, whom Charles Darwin styled the "distinguished biologist", was professor of botany and zoology at Kensington Roman Catholic University College in London and occupied the chair of the philosophy of natural history at the university of Louvain, Belgium.
