24 volumes, 8° (228 x 132mm). Engraved frontispieces to volume I and XXIV, 1064 hand-coloured engraved plates. (Several plates bound upside down or misplaced, marginal tears to a few plates, vol.XVIII lacking list of plates.) Contemporary red half morocco with marbled paper on sides (some rubbing and scuffing).
A FINE COPY OF THIS "REMARKABLE SERIAL" (Wood), a monumental work on Natural History. The Naturalist's Miscellany is devoted to zoological subjects, and includes a high proportion of birds; each subject is described in both Latin and English, and illustrated by a plate, the majority by Frederick Nodder's son Richard. As the original Prospectus stated: "The Plates [are] printed on the best paper ... executed with the most scrupulous Adherence to Nature, and ... coloured with the utmost Precision and Exactness".
