LATE 17TH CENTURY
With scroll carved toprail and lozenge centred panel with leaf motif to each corner and later elm seat, struck with initials 'T.J.'
41½in. (106cm.) high; the seat -- 23½in. (60cm.) wide; 15in. (39cm.) deep
Literature
An armchair with similarities is illustrated in Oak furniture from Gloucestershire and Somerset, exhibition catalogue published by Temple Newsam House, Leeds, 1976, Plate 13. The lozenge, the quatrefoil type motif taking various forms and the double scroll crest-rail are all characteristic of the Gloucestershire region.
