CIRCA 1740, ANSBACH, MANGANESE 8 TO FOOT
The plain body with a tall waisted neck and slender strap handle, painted in manganese, blue, green and yellow with a wild boar hunt within a crowned circular cartouch issuing scrolling foliage within vignettes of birds amongst branches, the hinged pewter cover with ball thumb-piece engraved with the initials FD/15, the foot with a pewter rim

Lot Essay

A tankard by the same hand with identical paired birds and baskets of symmetrical foliage is illustrated in the catalogue of the Adolf Bayer Collection, Ansbach 1963, no. 149 and by Adolf Bayer, Die Ansbacher Fayence-Fabriken (Braunschweig, 1959), fig. 136.

The present lot would appear to be unrecorded.
