A house stood at Weddington from the mid-16th century, and was incorporated into a re-designed Castle or Hall by the architect Robert Lugar in the early 19th century. Clad in sandstone and castellated in the popular taste of the day, it was set in parkland that was possibly laid out by Capability Brown. Henry Kay was among a succession of tenants of Weddinton in the 19th century. The house was ultimately demolished in 1928.
