TWO DERBY FIGURES OF A YOUTH AND COMPANION
CIRCA 1756-58
Possibly emblematic of Autumn and Spring, the youth modelled as a vintner carrying a basket of grapes on his back, his hair garlanded with flowers, enriched in a typical 'pale family' palette, his pink coat with a yellow lining, his waistcoat and breeches painted with flowers, the girl modelled holding a posy, her hair also garlanded with flowers, wearing a white bodice with yellow sleeves, a white apron with green lining and a skirt painted with flowers and edged in puce, each on a tree-stump base moulded with scrolls and applied with flowers
