The circular bowl and flush-fitting cover moulded as a chrysanthemum flower head, decorated overall in gold

Lot Essay

With an authentication by Seisai Sosa (1863-1937). The box inscribed Raku Kichizaemon, 13th Generation potter.

This cake box is modelled after an incense container by Eiraku Hozan (1795-1854) and dated 1828, an example of which is in the Kozu Bunka Museum, see Kyoto National Museum, Kyoto Ware, Ceramic Designs and Techniques of the Capital, Kyoto, 2006, no.236, p.232
