Meiji Period (late 19th century)
Decorated in gold hiramaki-e on a fundame ground and inlaid in mother of pearl, coral and various stained inlays in shibayama style with an elephant and karako, the reverse with a cloisonné duck decorated in coloured enamels and various thicknesses of gold wire, nashiji interior
