One of a waterdropper in the form of a crab seated on a lotus-leaf, 14 cm wide, the spout for pouring missing; the other a small two-handled vase with protruding foot, applied with a deer, the moulded vase applied with branches of peach above lingzhi, on an ormolu base, 13.7 cm. high (2)

Special notice

Lot Essay

A similar crab-form water-dropper is illustrated by P.J. Donnelly, Blanc de Chine, New York, 1969, pl. 32B (left). On page 105 the author states that a crab-shaped water-dropper was in the collection of August the Strong already by 1721. A similar example was sold in Christie's New York, 21 March 2002, lot 226.
