8° (200 x 120mm). Engraved title by I. Cheskii after I. Ivanov and with the monogram of A. Olenin. Contemporary red straight-grained morocco, gilt border, Greek key inner dentelles in gilt, all edges gilt (lightly rubbed). Provenance: Alexander I (shelf-mark) -- 'Printed in Russia' (small stamp on front blank) -- Paul M. Fekula.

FIRST EDITON. A FINE COPY IN RED MOROCCO, FROM THE LIBRARY OF ALEXANDER I AT THE WINTER PALACE. Batiushkov, whom Mirsky called 'a resolute enemy of Church Slavonic', was one of the great masters of literary Russian. V.A. Zhukovsky was his friend, and N.I.
