8° (200 x 120mm). Engraved title by I. Cheskii after I. Ivanov and with the monogram of A. Olenin. Contemporary red straight-grained morocco, gilt border, Greek key inner dentelles in gilt, all edges gilt (lightly rubbed). Provenance: Alexander I (shelf-mark) -- 'Printed in Russia' (small stamp on front blank) -- Paul M. Fekula.
FIRST EDITON. A FINE COPY IN RED MOROCCO, FROM THE LIBRARY OF ALEXANDER I AT THE WINTER PALACE. Batiushkov, whom Mirsky called 'a resolute enemy of Church Slavonic', was one of the great masters of literary Russian. V.A. Zhukovsky was his friend, and N.I. Gnedich, another friend, edited this collection. Fekula 4524 (this copy); Kilgour 108; Obol'ianinov 144.
