The text follows the greatly enlarged second edition, published in 1796. Osipov, one of the more fascinating figures of the age of Catherine II, also produced a number of translations, including Don Quixote and Clarissa Harlowe, and popular parodies, including of the Aeneid and Bogdanovich's Dushinka.
