12 parts in 1 vol., oblong 2° (206 x 275mm). Each part with title-page. 296 plates (of ?300; each part with 25 plates, except parts 1 and 2 with, respectively, 24 and 22 plates). (Some spotting, a few repairs, a few margins short, a few corners with small loss.) 20th-century quarter leather reusing one of the 19th-century boards, with the illustrated front wrapper bound-in (wrapper worn and repaired). Provenance: illegible stamp on the front wrapper.
WITH ALL 12 PARTS FOR THAT YEAR. Illustrated throughout with satirical drawings after N. Stepanov, the pre-eminent caricaturist of 19th-century Russia, N.S. Prasolov, S.A. Liubovnikov, Apollon and others. Increased censorship seriously hampered caricaturists from 1865, the year after this publication, into the 1870s.
