7 vols, 8° (283 x 212mm). 40 chromolithographs and 194 lithographs, some with printed tissue-guards, 16 maps, 5 bound-in facsimiles of declarations, and illustrations throughout. Publisher's original illustrated cloth, blocked in gilt and white, green endpapers (some joints splitting, spine heads and tails chipped, extremities rubbed, some endpapers loose). Provenance: Date stamp (Nov 18 1921) -- Columbia University Library (bookplates and shelfmarks) -- Paul M. Fekula.
FIRST EDITION. The Fekula set. The impact of the war of 1812 on Russia and its people was exceeded only by that of the Second World War, or 'Great Patriotic War', over a century later. The name of the latter was a conscious reference to its famous predecessor, with the aim of stirring up nationalism in the Russian people in aid of the war effort. Fekula 2364 (this copy). (7)
