Warre--Vintage 1963
Decanted from cask and bottled by Patens of Peterbourgh. Plastic capsules. Bin-soiled and stained labels. Levels into neck
Tasting Note: Despite a shaky start (in 1965) and a dozen slightly variable notes through the 1970s, for me this is now one of the best and most elegant of all the '63s. I have made a total of sixteen notes since the early 1980s when it emerged, fully fledged and totally delicious.
Only half a dozen noted in the 1990s, the most useful at the two Symington tastings in 1994 and 1996, each time alongside the Graham and Dow. Warre looked the most mature of the three and had lost quite a bit of colour, particularly in magnum; very fragrant, harmonious, touch of spice, cloves, tangerine; stylish, beautifully balanced, gentle acidity. Last tasted, showing well at Hal Lewis's superb 'Mr Gourmet' dinner in Memphis, Tennessee, Sept 1999 **** Now - 2015. M.B.
